Pa Gya! A Literary Festival in Accra opens on Friday, 14th October

Writers Project of Ghana and Goethe-Institut Ghana are pleased to announce the opening of this year's edition of Pa Gya! A Literary Festival in Accra. Opening this Friday 14th October at the Goethe-Institut in Accra, the festival will commence with a series of workshops from 11.00 AM. The opening ceremony is at 5:30 PM. This will be followed at 6:20 PM by a conversation between legendary Ghanaian filmmaker Kwaw Ansah and filmmaker and academic, Aseye Tamakloe, who will discuss the use of film as a medium of story-telling. At 7.20 PM there will concurrently be a book discussion between Philippe Sands (author, "The Last Colony") and Kinna Likimani, an audio listening session and discussion of the radio play "Good-bye Gold Coast", and a conversation between Chef Bintu and researcher James Courtright which will be moderated by Elizabeth Johnson.

The festival is free to attend.

Workshops at Pa Gya!

Since inception in October 2017, Pa Gya! A Literary Festival in Accra has dedicated its first day to workshops. Facilitated by experienced literary practitioners from diverse backgrounds, the workshops have helped participants improve their craft and provided various networking and publishing opportunities.

The workshops at Pa Gya! are free to attend and are carefully crafted to meet the needs of participants at all levels in their craft. While some require a certain level of experience, others are also open to persons who are beginning on their writing journey. The workshops run between two and four hours.

This year, the festival features more than twelve workshops which run variously on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We invite you to go through the list of workshops below and apply for any of them. The deadline for applying is 9th October, 2022.

Writers Project of Ghana is extending the deadline for the 2022 Abena Korantemaa Oral History Prize, an annual award for Oral History narrated by a woman over the age of 65 years. This prize was established by the family of Abena Korantemaa, and is sponsored by MAKEDA PR. The competition is open from now until Sunday 18th September, 2022.
