Special Reading with Kwei Quartey
For our fifth special reading of the year, Writers Project of Ghana and Jamestown Café proudly present Ghanaian crime fiction author Kwei Quartey at a reading and interaction session. This will take place at the Jamestown Café on 3rd August 2019 at 5 PM. Kwei Quartey will read from his forthcoming book, The Missing American.
Kwei Quartey is a trained physician from the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He did his residency at the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center later specializing in and specialized in chronic wound care.
Kwei Quartey is the author of Wife of the Gods (2009), Children Of The Street (2011), Murder At Cape Three Points(2014), Gold Of Our Fathers (2016), and Death By His Grace (2017), all in the Inspector Darko Dawson series set in Ghana. He is also the author of Death at the Voyager Hotel (2014). His first novel, Wife of the Gods became a New York Times best seller. Several of his works have also appeared on number of online publications and he has been a guest columnist for publications such as Foreign Policy in Focus and mongabay.com.
Kwei’s writing journey began when his love for writing fiction was rekindled after completing medical training. Although he submitted multiple manuscripts to different agents over the years, it was not until 2007 that an agent signed him for his first book, Wife of the Gods, a mystery novel set in Ghana published by Random House in 2009.
With his multicultural upbringing, Quartey examines in his fiction how the modern world intersects with the traditional in Ghana and will be reading from his new book The Missing American which is the debut of the Emma Djan Investigations series. The second book in the series will be Sleep Well, My Lady and is set to be released in 2021.
